Join award-winning international theatre artist Kari Margolis for a theatrical journey to your creative core! Margolis Method merges the skill sets of the actor, director and playwright, and takes the mystery out of acting with dramatic practicable exercises and improvisations. Learn to create theater on your feet, free your voice, develop new ways to analyze text and enliven your physical instrument -- all to build a powerful three-dimensional theater artist. Some previous theatre experience or training recommended. ages 18+, capacity: 25 students. About the instructor: Kari Margolis is a playwright, director, designer, published author and master teacher. She co-founded the Adaptors Company with Tony Brown in 1984 in New York City and has conceived and directed 16 evening-length productions that have received critical acclaim throughout the United States, Canada and Mexico and in Barcelona, Berlin, London and Singapore. The Company was based in Minneapolis from 1994 to 2004 and presented 9 original productions and site-specific works for such places as the Minnesota Museum. In the Twin Cities Margolis has been commissioned to create work for the Children's Theatre Company, the University of Minnesota's Theater Department, and the Minnesota Chorale. She is the recipient of a Pew/TCG National Residency Fellowship, a McKnight National Fellowship, a Bush Foundation Fellowship, six National Endowment for the Arts Fellowships, Multiple McKnight Foundation Fellowships and a NY "Bessie" among several other prestigious awards. Kari is Artistic Director of the Margolis Method Center in NY and Co-Director of Margolis Method Center Barcelona. She teaches master classes and lecture demonstrations nationally and internationally and has been the master teacher for the Kennedy Center's American College Theatre Festival for 13 years.

Registration Policies

  • Please consider pre-requisites. Experience outside of the Guthrie such as college training, workshops, and stage experience may qualify you for CREATE, COLLABORATE and ARTIST INTENSIVE classes. Please contact the Education Department if you have any questions. We reserve the right to transfer your registration to a more appropriate class if you do not qualify.

  • Full payment is required at the time of registration. (Contact the Education Department to arrange a payment plan, if needed.)

  • A $3 handling fee for each class registration will apply.

  • A $25 registration fee will be assessed for cancellations 10 or more days prior to the first class.

  • For all cancellations within 10 business days of the first class, a 50% refund will be granted.
