The Guthrie Theater invites patrons and families to attend a relaxed performance of For the People. A relaxed performance is intended to be sensitive to and accepting of any audience member who may benefit from a more relaxed environment. WHY WHO WHAT BEFORE YOU ARRIVE AGE RECOMMENDATION
We want to share the joy of theater with anyone who would benefit from a more relaxed, judgement-free and low-key theatergoing environment. Our staff, cast and crew invite patrons to come, be themselves and experience the thrill and wonder of this timeless classic.
Although relaxed performances are open to all, they are intentionally modified to accommodate patrons with sensory and vestibular sensitivities, anxiety, dementia, autism spectrum disorders, learning differences or challenges attending the theater.
Small modifications will be made to each performance, which may include reducing the volume of loud noises and effects, eliminating strobe lights, keeping the house lights on and having a relaxed attitude toward sound and movement in the audience. In addition to making adjustments onstage and in the theater, our lobbies and public spaces will include quiet areas, sensory-friendly activities and increased staff to create a safe, welcoming environment.
We will offer a variety of support materials to ensure you have a positive experience, including a tip sheet, detailed narrative about what it's like to visit the Guthrie, overview of the scenes and characters in the show and a sensory building map to help you choose the best routes and spaces during your visit.
All ages are welcome, but we recommend Midsummer Night's Dream for ages 12 and up. Please note that this production features mature themes that may not be suitable for young children.
